Why we specify it
All structural hardware we fit — eyelets, hooks, lacing rings, deck fittings and fasteners — is specified in 316 (marine-grade) stainless steel. The added molybdenum in 316 is what resists the pitting and tea-staining that 304 “stainless” suffers near salt water.
Best for
- All marine cover hardware
- Deck and rail fittings
- Anything that lives near salt
Why we use it
- 316 resists salt pitting; 304 does not, for long
- Keeps covers looking sharp — no rust streaks on fabric or gelcoat
- Strength maintained over years of load cycles
Trade-offs
- Costs more than 304 or zinc-plated hardware
- Still benefits from an occasional fresh-water rinse
Care tips
- Fresh-water rinse
- Polish tea-stains early if they appear
