Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about cost, lead times, materials and care — from the loft in Pittwater.
How much does a custom boat cover cost?
It depends on size, complexity and fabric. Small items like console covers, hatch covers and rope bags are typically a few hundred dollars; boom covers and sail covers sit in the mid-hundreds; larger or more complex covers are quoted individually. Every job is quoted up front after a measure — call 0407065174 for a free quote.
How long does a custom boat cover last?
With proper care, 5–10+ years. Loft 33 uses UV-stable fabrics (Weathermax or Sunbrella) sewn with Tenara PTFE thread, which is guaranteed for the life of the fabric and does not break down in sunlight — stitching failure is what kills most cheaper covers.
What areas does Loft 33 service?
Loft 33 is based in Pittwater on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and services the surrounding area — including Newport, Bayview, Church Point, Avalon, Palm Beach and the RPAYC and RMYC marinas — with work across greater Sydney by arrangement.
What is the lead time for a custom cover?
Typically 2–4 weeks from measurement to installation, depending on the season and the complexity of the job.
Why choose a custom cover over an off-the-shelf one?
A custom cover is patterned to your boat’s exact geometry, so it fits tightly, sheds water properly and does not chafe or flog in wind. Off-the-shelf covers rely on excess fabric and elastic, which traps moisture and wears through gelcoat and canvas alike.
What fabrics does Loft 33 use?
Primarily Weathermax and Sunbrella for covers, Serge Ferrari Stamoid for high-waterproofing applications, and marine-grade hardware: Tenara PTFE thread, YKK zips and 316 stainless fittings.
How should I care for my boat cover?
Rinse salt off with fresh water regularly, brush off dirt before it embeds, and let the cover dry before storing it. Avoid harsh detergents and pressure washers — they strip the fabric’s water-repellent finish.
Do you repair existing covers?
Yes — restitching, zip and fastener replacement, and panel repairs are all possible where the base fabric is still sound. If the fabric itself has broken down from UV, replacement is usually better value than repair.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Loft 33 provides a workmanship warranty on every job, on top of the manufacturer warranties for the fabrics and hardware used.
